Background:
Elections are generally an important mechanism in the decision-making process of most political systems. The upcoming Israeli parliamentary elections scheduled for April 9 are not an exception. Their potential impact on Israeli politics and foreign policy might represent a historic turning point in several respects. First, will these elections end the long-term controversial career of Benjamin Netanyahu? Second, will the political center bloc become indisputably the dominant force in Israeli electoral politics? Third, will the April results be viewed as a requiem for the Labor left in its various incarnations? Fourth, how will these elections impact civil rights and civil liberties in Israel considering the growing marginalization of the progressive and Arab voting blocs? And finally, will the outcome of the election have a direct impact on the declared intention of the Trump administration to release its “Deal of the Century” immediately after the next Israeli government is formed?
Please join us in an authoritative discussion of these and other probing questions about the upcoming elections in Israel.
