The Middle East in FY23 NDAA Amendments – House

Resource

As is the case every year, the annual National Defense Authorization bill (NDAA) is an occasion for members to submit to the Rules Committee many, many, many, many (etc) amendments. Many of these amendments have nothing to do with the underlying bill. All of them reflect pet issues/initiatives of various members of Congress, including with respect to the Middle East. As such, regardless of whether the Rules committee rules the amendments “in order” (allowing the amendment to be considered on the House floor), all the amendments offer a valuable window into the intentions/plans/aspirations of lawmakers.

Below is a table tracking amendment Middle East-related amendments offered to HR 7900, the FY23 NDAA (to be updated as more amendments are submitted and as the Rules Committee takes action). The Rules Committee is expected to meet the week of July 11 to decide what amendments are in order, and from there the bill/amendments will move to the House floor for consideration.
