Israel will shortly hold its second election in less than a year. The April elections reflected deep divisions and personal rivalries that prevented government formation, and these new elections might well produce the same. Both elections have highlighted the continued rightward shift in Israeli politics and public sentiment, with the latest round featuring efforts by Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu to lay the groundwork for possible annexation of large parts of the West Bank.

What do the results of the September 17 elections mean for the prospects of someday returning to Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations? How likely is it that Israel will annex West Bank territory, and what would be the implications of such a move?

Please join the Carnegie Middle East Program and the Foundation for Middle East Peace for a discussion of these issues featuring Galia Golan and Aaron David Miller.

A light breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m. The discussion will begin promptly at 9:00.

Please RSVP to Blair Scott (bscott@ceip.org) by no later than Wednesday, September 25.
