The agreement signed in Vienna today between the P5+1 and Iran is an historic triumph of diplomacy. The Foundation for Middle East Peace congratulates President Obama, Secretary Kerry, and all P5+1 negotiators on their tireless efforts to reach a deal. Today’s announcement demonstrates that the security of the U.S., its partners, and the world can be advanced through effective and sustained diplomacy, and shows once again the importance of American leadership in addressing shared problems.

“It is now up to Congress,” said Matthew Duss, President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace. “Polls have consistently shown that a majority the American people support this deal, as does an overwhelming consensus among regional and nuclear security experts. This agreement cannot be held hostage to those who have opposed diplomacy with Iran from the beginning and who have made clear they will not be satisfied with any realistic deal on Iran’s nuclear program. The U.S. and its partners have secured unprecedented concessions from Iran on inspections and monitoring that will block Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon – exactly the goal of these talks.”
