Yossi Klein Halevi, with Walid Issa

In Conversation with Sarah Wildman

May 24, 2018 • 7:00 pm

The Jewish Book Award-winning author of Like Dreamers offers a powerful and nuanced call for reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians in Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor. In ten provocative and moving letters, Halevi—who was born in the U.S., emigrated to Israel in his twenties, and now lives in Jerusalem—shares his passion for his adopted homeland and why he refuses to despair of peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

As he describes how the conflict looks through Israeli eyes and shares deep empathy for Palestinian suffering, Halevi reveals the complex strands of faith, pride, anger, and anguish he feels as a Jew living in Israel.

Halevi is a senior fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute, where he co-directs, together with Imam Abdullah Antepli of Duke University, the Muslim Leadership Initiative.

Sarah Wildman, Foreign Policy‘s deputy editor for print and the author of Paper Love, will moderate a conversation between Halevi and Dr. Walid Issa. Born and raised in a Palestinian refugee camp, Issa is an award-winning economist and the co-founder of the American Palestinian Hope Project. He is currently a program officer at the Alliance for Middle East Peace.
