Hope, Trepidation and the Upcoming U.S. Election: What’s at Stake for the Peace Camp — with Lara Friedman
A divided America is on the brink of an historic election. The results will reverberate far beyond U.S. borders. Where do things stand in these final days before voters make their choice? What would be the consequences for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict of either a Biden or a Trump win? For the Jewish community? What if the results are contested? How are American Jews reacting?
Lara Friedman will bring us up to date on this crucial race, discuss what role the Israel/Palestine issue is playing in the campaign, and analyze the implications for Israelis and Palestinians, as well as for the Jewish diaspora, of a win by either candidate.
Lara Friedman is President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace, which promotes a just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a grants program, public programming and research. Prior to joining FMEP, she was Director of Policy and Government Relations at Americans for Peace Now. Before that she was a U.S. Foreign Service officer who served in Jerusalem, Washington, Tunis and Beirut. Altogether, she has more than 25 years of experience working in the Middle East foreign policy arena, with particular expertise on the Israel-Arab conflict, Israeli settlements, Jerusalem and the role of the U.S. Congress. She is published widely and regularly consulted by many, including members of Congress and their staffs. In addition to her work at FMEP, she is a contributing writer for Jewish Currents and a non-resident fellow at the U.S./Middle East Project.
