Emek Shaveh is an Israeli NGO composed of archeological experts working – particularly in Jerusalem – to fight the political manipulation of archeology for the benefit of an exclusionary Israeli right-wing agenda that uses archeology as a weapon to displace Palestinians. In the past year alone, Emek Shaveh has been an indispensable actor pushing back against Israeli government support for settler-led archaeological projects in East Jerusalem. To do this, Emek Shaveh maintains regular contact with communities living in or near sensitive archaeological sites in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Israel. Using their unique expertise as professional archeologists, Emek Shaveh monitors archaeological activities in these areas including infringement of Palestinian property rights and cultural heritage rights, and documents these issues for policy makers and the general public.
