Al Mezan Center for Human Rights (Al Mezan) is a Gaza-based Palestinian, independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization that is dedicated to the protection of human rights for Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Al Mezan works on the basis of international human rights and humanitarian law (IHL), pushing for the full implementation of the rule of law including the end of the closure of Gaza, the end of the occupation, and respect for human rights by and for all.

Established in 1999 in Jabalia refugee camp by a group of human rights defenders and lawyers, Al Mezan has become a key player in the Palestinian and regional human rights community. With a focus on economic, social and cultural rights, Al Mezan works closely with local communities to promote human rights, democracy and IHL. 

Al Mezan conducts three main activities:

1) monitoring and documenting human rights violations perpetrated by Palestinian authorities, Israeli authorities, or non-state actors against Palestinian population;

2) providing free legal services, including walk-in legal advice to inform victims of their rights and available legal interventions on behalf of victims in Palestine and Israel; and,

3) analysis of violation trends and outcomes of legal interventions, which guide planning advocacy activities in Europe, USA, and UN bodies in order to provide decision makers with evidence-backed information on the latest developments in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
