Trump’s Israeli-Palestinian Peace Plan: Boom or Bust?
Nearly two years after taking office, President Trump is still saying that he has a plan up his sleeve that can achieve what no plan has achieved before: Israeli-Palestinian peace. Yet, while awaiting release of this plan, his Administration has taken one action after another to concretely change U.S. policy to embrace hard-line Israeli positions on issues like Jerusalem, refugees, and settlements, and to undermine U.S. relations with Palestinian leaders and the Palestinian people. With decades of precedent upended, what are the prospects for peace going forward? Do Trump’s moves have the potential to revitalize a moribund status quo, or are they making a difficult conflict even worse?

Haggai Matar is the Executive Director of +972 Magazine, a media platform of Israeli and Palestinian journalists committed to human rights, democracy, social justice and ending the occupation. Haggai is an award-winning journalist, political activist and a board member of the Journalists’ Union in Israel.
Suhad Babaa is the Executive Director of Just Vision, an organization dedicated to increasing media coverage and support for Palestinian and Israeli grassroots leaders working to end the occupation and build a future of freedom, dignity and equality in the region. She previously served as the Director of Programming, overseeing Just Vision’s educational and community outreach efforts across the United States, Israel, and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Dahlia Scheindlin is a leading international public opinion analyst and strategic consultant based in Tel Aviv. She works for a wide range of local and international organizations dealing with Israeli-Palestinian conflict issues, human rights, peacemaking, democracy, religious identity and internal social issues in Israeli society.
Peter Beinart (participating moderator) is Associate Professor of Journalism and Political Science at the City University of New York. He is also a Contributor to The Atlantic, a Senior Columnist at The Forward, a CNN Political Commentator and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Foundation for Middle East Peace.
