Haqel: In Defense of Human Rights, is a legal aid organization providing services to Palestinians fighting against the occupation, primarily in the South Hebron Hills and the Jalud Valley. Haqel’s case load centers on land rights issues, including access, ownership, and planning rights. Its mission is to help Palestinians stay on their land (sumud), and to do so it actively takes on the Israeli occupation bureaucracy. Haqel calls itself a “holistic” legal aid organization because its work deals with many facets of the legal/socioeconomic framework of the individual and/or community, including stopping demolitions and addressing settler violence.
