CALVIN H. COBB, JR., 1924-2017

Calvin Cobb, a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Middle East Peace, died October 28, 2017 in Naples Florida.  He was 93.

Cobb was a close friend of the late Merle Thorpe, Jr, who created the Foundation for Middle East Peace in 1979 as a non-profit advocacy group for an Israeli-Arab peace.  In 2004 Cobb succeeded the late Ambassador Lucius Battle and served as Chairman of the Board of the Foundation until retiring to Naples in 2006.

After graduating from Annapolis and wartime service in the Philippines, Wake Island, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, Cobb studied law at Georgetown, and ultimately became a senior partner at the Washington firm of Steptoe & Johnson.  He was an active civic leader, and was President of the Navy League.  He was also an accomplished golf and tennis player, and a passionate bridge player, winning many Master points, and playing almost daily after his retirement.

The Foundation for Middle East Peace remembers Calvin Cobb with great affection and respect for his wise counsel and strong leadership.  He leaves a proud legacy of decades of service, steadfast commitment to a just peace in the Middle East, especially between Israelis and Palestinians, and resolute advocacy for more effective American diplomacy.

A memorial service will be held at The Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament Saturday, December 2, 11:00 am, 3630 Quesada St., NW, Chevy Chase, Washington DC 20015
